July 1 marked the 40th Birthday of McGruff the Crime Dog®, America’s beloved crime prevention icon who—with the National Crime Prevention Council (NCPC)—has led our nation’s efforts to help people keep themselves, their families, and their communities safe from crime.
We recognize that our country is in pain. Important questions are being raised about some relationships between law enforcement and their communities. At the same time, we face a global pandemic.
Even in tough times, it’s important to honor McGruff and people dedicated to crime prevention. They help keep our communities safe – often on shoestring budgets. We hope you will join us in honoring so many committed people across the country and our partner organizations who help prevent crime every day.
We cannot fix the entire world, but each of us can do our part and work to Take A Bite Out Of Crime®. That is why on McGruff’s Birthday this year, we honor all those who dedicate themselves to protecting our neighborhoods and families — from the first responders and all essential workers who are central to our battle against the Coronavirus to the community leaders who share NCPC’s tips and tools with the people in their cities, towns, and counties every day. And NCPC redoubles our commitment to work every day — through Crime Prevention Month 2021 and beyond — toward safer and more caring communities.
